What's coming in Control Board's next release
On 2026-10-07 Control Board adopted a new plan, based on what people running home labs ask for most. Most of it is now built. None of it has reached testers yet: it is being tested first, and it comes to the private alpha with the next release for Windows and for Linux.
Anything below that changes something is off until you turn it on in Settings. It asks you to confirm, takes your PIN if you set one, and is written to the audit log.
More reliable alerts
- Quieter alerts. When a host goes down, the alerts for its guests and checks wait under the host’s alert, so one outage is one alert. An alert that keeps coming back is marked “flapping” and notifies you once. Any alert, or every alert of one kind, can be set to Critical, Warning, Information or Off, and the Alerts page names anything you’ve turned off.
- Alerts on your phone. New critical alerts, and warnings if you like, can also go to ntfy, Pushover, Gotify or a webhook of your own. They are sent from your PC while the app is running, and tokens are kept in your system keyring.
- An audit log. Every change made from Control Board is recorded, with who made it, from which PC and when. Each entry is chained to the one before it, so an edited or deleted entry shows. It can also go to a syslog server. PINs and tokens are never written.
Seeing more of your lab
- A stronger backup watch. Backups are checked guest by guest, weekly and other common Proxmox schedules are understood, and a failed backup run is reported straight away.
- Hardware health. Each host’s disks with their SMART health and how much of their rated life is left, and CPU and drive temperatures. A failing disk, a worn-out SSD or a host running hot becomes an alert. Host details also graph disk reads and writes.
- Docker hosts. A Docker page lists the containers on each host you add, grouped by Compose project, with their health checks and restarts. It only reads: it never starts or stops a container, and never reads their environment variables, where passwords often are.
- UPS status. Battery charge, minutes left and load for each UPS on a NUT server. Going on battery, a low or worn-out battery and an overloaded UPS are alerts, and maintenance never silences them.
- If a host goes down. For a cluster, the Overview says whether each host could go down with its running guests still fitting on the others.
- Folders, saved views and one cluster at a time. Group guests by Proxmox pool or by your own folders, save a page with its filters, and focus on one cluster while alerts still count them all.
Managing your lab from Control Board
- Several guests at once. Pick guests by tag, host or name, then start, shut down or reboot them together. Control Board first lists exactly what will change.
- A script before a shutdown. Run one of your own actions before a guest goes down, for example to move work elsewhere. If it fails, the guest is left as it was.
- A UPS shutdown order. Choose which guests shut down, and in what order, when a UPS runs low. There is a one-minute countdown you can cancel, and it runs only while the app is running.
- Guided host maintenance. Pick a Proxmox host and Control Board plans the work: where its guests can move, which have to shut down, and whether the cluster keeps quorum. Then it moves them, updates and reboots the host, checks it, and puts the guests back. It stops at the first problem and says where every guest is.
- Kubernetes changes. Restart a deployment, statefulset or daemonset, or change how many copies of it run, if your Kubernetes login allows it.
- A terminal in the app. Open a shell on a host from its details, over the login Control Board already uses.
A first agent for your lab
An optional small program that runs on a Linux machine in your own lab, such as a container that stays up when the rest of the lab has trouble. It reads your lab the way the app does, and the app shows what it sees. You pair them in Sources over an SSH login to that machine, and the app trusts only that agent’s own certificate. If the agent stops answering, the app reads the lab itself until it’s back. This first version only reads. Later, it will send alerts to your phone while your PC is off.
What’s next
Guest power, and everything else here that changes something, is being proven on real hardware before any of it ships. The roadmap has the rest.
